barcelona star luis enrique could face criminal proceedings after being accused of fraud by the spanish ministry of finance.
the 34-year-old has alleged to have defrauded some 鈧?70.000 (拢180,000) in tax payments according to spanish newspaper la vanguardia.
the spanish financial authorities permit oversights of up to 鈧?0.000 (拢60,000) in unpaid tax cases, but are now likely to bring a criminal investigation against the former real madrid star.
the outstanding amount dates back to the 1999-2000 season, and an undeclared payment of around 鈧?00,000 (拢400,000) that the former spanish international made to an account in the west indies as part of his contract renewal at barca.
according to la vanguardia, luis enrique has claimed that the sum related to employees of barcelona, and that the club was responsible for paying tax on the money.
